Welcome To Past Master John Howard's Encouraging Word Page

Hello Brothers, it has been awhile but that is one of the hazards of having to work. I hope all is well with everyone and that the stomach virus has passed over you and your family.
I want to thank all those who provided feedback on the last article and that leads to this topic of discussion. I believe one of the greatest Landmarks of this brotherhood is “The equality of all Masons” (Landmark number 22 in the Encyclopedia of Freemasonry). Every Mason, regardless of their position in the world, upon entering the Lodge are on the same level, each voice carries the same weight and all ideas are discussed and as a body come to an agreement as to what is best for their Lodge. That is not to say there shouldn’t be a “differing of opinion” because there should and because we are all equal, the sharing of different opinions or ideas leads to the building up, not tearing apart, of our society of friends and brothers.
This Landmark of Masonry was such an important principal that the first civic leaders and pioneers of this continent based the foundations of this country on those ideas and before that the same idea was spreading across European countries. Brothers remember that from the newly raised brother to the brother that has the 50 year service pin we are all equal, just some have more wisdom than others and they should feel obligated to pass on that wisdom so that the Brotherhood can adapt to the changing time with the greatest chance of not only surviving but growing and still keep the principal foundation of this great Brotherhood.
Take care brothers and remember to keep our troops in your prayers.
